“We offer a loving Christian environment for your child to grow and develop a healthy sense of self and positive attitudes. We nurture God’s children through a Christian based education emphasizing social and emotional development. Your child will increase his/her confidence, self-control, and problem-solving abilities. They will explore their world, letters, numbers, shapes, and colors. Fine and gross motor skills will be developed through play and hands-on activities. We are committed to giving your child lasting positive memories of their first experience with school.”– Mary Dumont, Preschool Director
The Giving Tree Preschool is a Christian, half-day school that is a ministry of Lutheran Church of Our Saviour. We have been educating children since 1992.
We follow the Weekday Early Education (WEE) Learn Curriculum as a basis for our program, which is specifically designed to meet the needs of young children. Through ongoing training and the vast teaching resources available, we have created an environment that will develop your child’s relationship with God and help them to grow academically through age-appropriate structured play and hands-on activities. Your child will participate in arts and crafts, singing, fingerplays with poems and songs, and unstructured, self-guided play. They will become familiar with the alphabet, counting, as well as appropriate classroom behavior and interaction with their peers. We lovingly encourage proper behavior and allow them to develop at their own pace, building their confidence.
Here at The Giving Tree Preschool, your child will enjoy a daily snack provided from home. Our pastor has a short chapel once a month; the Bible story message is continued in the classroom with a related craft or activity. Once a month our music director brings the gift of music using multiple instruments, creating rhythms and singing songs. We do not go on field trips; however, a one-time Activity Fee goes toward monthly onsite events, including the Chesterfield County Fire Department, Jonathan Juggler, Thanksgiving Feast, Dad’s Night, Mom’s Day, Petting Zoo, and more. Your child will also spend time outside on our playground or riding trikes. Our natural playground is sand based with sand toys, trucks, and cars to promote creative and imaginative play.
Our school is in session September through May, starting the day after Labor Day. We follow Chesterfield County Public Schools’ “traditional” calendar. Classes are from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and children enrolled in the Pre-K program stay until 2:00 p.m. each Wednesday; our Pre-K program includes weekly hands-on STEM activities.
